2024 Black Desert Championship tee times, TV coverage, viewer’s guide – Australian Golf Digest

We have a PGA Tour first this week at the inaugural Black Desert Championship: It’s the first time a professional golf event will be played in a lava field (or at least it’s believed to be the case). The Black Desert Resort Course, opened in 2023, will host the tour’s first stop in Utah since 1963, and the pros will get a chance to hit into wavy fairways chiseled out of fields of black lava rock. What else could you want?

The third of eight FedEx Cup Fall tournaments will feature a special milestone, with tour veteran (and Utah native) Jay Don Blake making his 500th tour start due to a special exemption for the 65-year-old. Long-time Utah resident and International Team Presidents Cup captain Mike Weir will also be in the field as will young up-and-comer Michael Thorbjornsen, recently tour winner Patton Kizzire, Seamus Power, Patrick Rodgers, Harris English and Nick Taylor to name a few.

Black Desert is also the first course in tour history to use robotic fairway mowers (!) and will be quite a treat for both pros and viewers alike. And after the LPGA holds an event at the course in 2025, it will be the only venue that holds regular-season tournaments on both tours.

Brian Oar false Public Black Desert Resort Ivins, UT, United States Black Desert Resort in the arid desert of southern Utah, surrounded by horizons of red rock mountains, was the last golf course Tom Weiskopf was involved in building (he was diagnosed with cancer as construction was beginning). Opened in 2023, the public course is a stunning juxtaposition of wavy fairways chiseled out of fields of black lava rock that had to be blasted into golf formations. Phil Smith, Weiskopf’s longtime design partner, completed the visually arresting design that will host the PGA Tour’s new Black Desert Championship in the fall of 2024, and another LPGA event the following year. Black Desert Resort is located outside the golf-rich area of St. George, Utah. The PGA Tour will host a new event at Black Desert in 2024, marking the first PGA Tour event in Utah in more than 60 years. View Course

This week’s winner will receive a $1.35 million cut of the $7.5 million purse.
