Denvah Baker-Moller, Dylan Wright and Amy Reeves battled it out for the public vote, with Wright eventually coming out on top during the nailbiting finale, much to the dismay of many viewers at home.

Dylan Wright has blown the judges and audience away week after week with his impressive performances.

Celebrating his win, the emotional singer gushed: “I’m about to cry! So, thanks!”

Wright walked away with a recording contract with industry giant Sony Music Entertainment Australia and $100,000 in prize money.

The show began with hosts Ricki Lee and Scott Tweedie addressing judge Marcia Hines’ shock absence on Sunday night after being rushed to hospital.

“I feel fine,” she told viewers. “I want to thank everybody who reached out towards me, you know. I do appreciate it. And you guys need to know – I couldn’t have missed this for the world. I couldn’t have.”

With voting closed and all the judges in their seats, it was time for the remaining contestants to perform again for Australia before the votes were announced.

Baker-Moller chose to perform Landslide by The Dixie Chicks, Wright belted out his version of Elton John’s Tiny Dancer, while Reeves stunned with a powerful rendition of Jessie J’s Bang Bang.

Judge Kyle Sandilands enjoyed Reeves’ performance so much that it sparked him to admit that he “hopes she wins”.

Viewers at home loved seeing a different side to Reeves, with one tweeting: “Wow she looks so good” and another adding: “That was so unexpected. Loved it!”

After the first results were announced, it was revealed that Baker-Moller had come third and wouldn’t be progressing through to the final two.

After guest performer Delta Goodrem sang her latest single Heart on the Run, it was down to Reeves and Wright to battle it out one last time.

Reeves chose to sing her audition song Natural Woman while Wright hoped a performance of Better Be Home Soon would be enough to win him the title.

In the end, after a nailbiting season, it was the young dad who was crowned the official winner of Australian Idol 2024.

He went on to perform a rousing rendition of his debut single, Paper Hearts, and as the song came to a close he began to tear up and couldn’t get the rest of the words out.

Fans rushed to social media to share their reactions to the result, with some celebrating while others claimed Reeves, who had been tipped to win in the betting odds, had been “robbed”.

One wrote: “Call the police! A robbery has taken place on #AustralianIdol. Amy has been absolutely shafted. Easily the best performer in idol history.”

“Hey Amy, Jessica Mauboy was a runner up 18 years ago. She’s currently touring the nation, the guy who won I believe hosts community radio. You’ll be a okay,” said a second disappointed fan.

“I’m hocked Amy didn’t win,” said another. “Thought she was the best singing show contestant in some time. #AustralianIdol”.

However, one viewer that was happy with the result tweeted: “Congratulations to Dylan for winning this season!”
