BEST BETS
Bendigo R10 No.10 Chorlton Lane
Chorlton Lane (10) seems to produce his best when fresh, as he is here. His first-up record (3:2-1-0) is superb and he’s yet to miss a place in six starts over 1400m. Maher looks to have found a nice return race for him here.
Randwick R8 No.1 Mr Brightside
I’m going to stick with the peoples champion here – Mr Brightside (1). The horse is absolutely flying and while his Australian Cup run looked disappointing, it was a Good 3 track and on the rock hard surface with Pride Of Jenni setting the tempo she did, it flattened him. Up to Sydney is a positive because you know the track will have some edge off it, and his record there is super. Two Doncaster Miles and a second to Fangirl in the King Charles III. I’m also not sure why people question his ability to perform at 2000m given he was beaten a pimple by Romantic Warrior in the Cox Plate – our premier weight-for-age contest.
Doomben R7 No.1 Miss Joelene
Some of these have black-type ambitions for the Winter. Miss Joelene (1) was too good when resuming against older horses in a midweek Class 2. She was racing at Group level last preparation, gives them all at least 5.5kg but with Jim Orman gets the gun run from the ace and class will prevail.
BEST VALUE
Bendigo R3 No.1 Rocket Tiger
Rocket Tiger (1) was given no hope at The Valley last start, taken back to last before picking off a few rivals late. He drops from a BM84 to BM70 grade and isn’t too badly weighted with 60kg after Clarke’s claim. Expect to see him closer in the run from barrier four.
Randwick R5 No.11 Joliestar
Joliestar (11) is first-up off her Thousand Guineas win but I think she’s flying. The two barrier trials have looked great and she wasn’t asked for an effort on each occasion. Going to get a genuine tempo here, which she will love, and there’s not many better jockeys that capitalise on that than Jason Collett.
Doomben R5 No.2 Beef Week Princess
Daniel Bowen’s stable has been flying and Beef Week Princess (2) is a mare in form only just missing in higher Benchmark grade at Eagle Farm last start. Big weights don’t frighten here and from gate two she will get all the favours with Danny Peisley.
