It had been just a month-and-a-half shy of two years since Vlad Duric last rode a winner in Australia … but he reset that statistic at Ipswich today when he guided the Jennifer Fraser trained grey mare All Stashed Up to victory in the last race on the card, saluting at the juicy odds of $13 with popular betting apps which would have made a nice collect for those punters who had followed Duric on the basis that he would make it to the winners’ enclosure sooner rather than later when he kicked off the next phase of the career in Queensland on April 3.
Duric had been riding in Singapore for most of his time away since his last ride in Australia for Philip Stokes in June 2022 and this first win in Queensland came in just his sixth ride since returning to the country from that racing precinct , where he was not only a four-time Jockey Premiership winner, but where he also successful enough to join a club of only five riders who have been able to bring up the 700 winner milestone in Singapore.
Half of those six rides so far in Queensland have already been for Queensland’s top trainer Tony Gollan, albeit that two of those were at double figure odds, and another one was for Robert Heathcote, so the big stables have Duric’s presence firmly noted on their radar, and chances are that more and better chances will become available to Duric as he settles in more and his list of winners starts to increase.
Any addition that makes any jockey’s room more competitive is a great addition.
You can mark Duric’s name right up alongside that statement and tick the box.
