Surprise guests stun as Usher delivers all-time Super Bowl halftime show in Vegas

Australian NFL fans had already cleared their Monday schedules as the Kansas City Chiefs took on the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.

But after glimpses of some music superstars during the first half – Taylor Swift and her buddies – the entertainment world took over with Usher the headline act for the halftime show.

And while it’s safe to say many viewers weren’t falling in love again, those of a certain age absolutely adored the tribute to a specific era of R&B music.

Clearly singing live, Usher began the performance with a medley that included Caught Up and Love in This Club.

Alicia Keys was the first surprise appearance, at the piano for If I Ain’t Got You, before they joined forces for My Boo.

A bit of Confessions Pt II, Burn and U Got It Bad then followed.

Will.I.Am came out for a bit of OMG before Lil Jon made things truly go wild with Turn Down For What.

Followed by Yeah, this portion of the medley was simply electric, especially when Ludacris popped up, and it ended in dramatic fashion.

Some were surprised Justin Bieber didn’t make an appearance.

What better way to spend your lunch break?

WHO IS PERFORMING?

This year, the honour goes to eight-time Grammy Award winner Usher.

Although it’s Usher’s first time headlining the Super Bowl halftime show, it’s not the first time he has been involved with the iconic segment.

In 2011, he appeared alongside the Black Eyed Peas to perform OMG as a surprise guest.

HOW LONG DOES THE HALFTIME SHOW LAST?

Although halftime typically lasts for 30 minutes, Usher’s set is expected to be around 13 minutes.

That means he’ll have to cram a lot of iconic hits into a very small window of time.

WILL THERE BE ANY SURPRISE GUESTS?

During last year’s halftime show, Rihanna decided not to bring along any special guests.

But for those hoping to see Usher joined by a surprise artist, you’re in luck.

The man himself confirmed some familiar faces will be with him during his performance during a press conference prior to the Super Bowl.

“I went through a lot of ideas of who I would have shared this moment with me,” the star told Apple Music’s Nadeska Alexis.

“I do feel like the people who are going to share it deserve just as much recognition for what they do in their careers.”

Given Usher has collaborated with the likes of Alicia Keys, Nicki Minaj and Ludacris, fans have every right to be excited over what’s to come during the halftime show.

WHAT ARE THE BETTING MARKETS FOR THE HALFTIME SHOW?

Yes, there’s even betting markets for Usher’s halftime show and they range from all ends of the novelty spectrum.

For the fashion-minded sports fans, you can bet on which colour jacket Usher will wear when he first walks on stage, with white a hot favourite at $1.50, per Sportsbet.

As for what song Usher will open his set with, Caught Up is the $1.70 favourite with My Way paying $2.62.

And for Usher’s closing song, Yeah! is the clear frontrunner at $1.50, with DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love as the next best option.
