Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has criticized US entrepreneur Elon Musk for not complying with a request to block posts on his social media platform X, which show last week’s church stabbing in Sydney.
In a recent interview with Australia’s public broadcaster, Albanese said that he’ll do what is necessary to take on the “arrogant billionaire who thinks he’s above the law, but also above common decency.”
And he criticized Mr. Musk for not showing any social responsibility.
Australia’s e-Safety Commissioner had ordered X to hide the graphic footage that shows the stabbing of a prominent church leader.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested last week for allegedly wounding the bishop and churchgoers with a knife during a televised service.
On Monday, an Australian court also ordered X to remove the graphic footage until Wednesday through an interim injunction.
Musk posted a meme on X, suggesting the Australian government supports the censorship of free speech.
In a separate post, he called the regulator a “censorship commissar.”
