This comes after reports emerged that he too would throw his hat in the ring. With Rahul Dravid’s tenure coming to an end in June post the T20 World Cup 2024, BCCI has invited fresh applications for the post.

Dravid, on the other hand, has denied to continue his position as the head coach of Team India so BCCI are left with no option but to look for another candidate. “It would almost be the biggest job in cricket – being the head coach of the Indian cricket team,” Langer said.

“One, because of the huge volume of cricket, the huge expectation. It would be a great challenge. It would be great fun and it would be a wonderful opportunity to win ICC titles.,” he added.

Langer previously coached Australia

The former Australia player has an experience of coaching as he took a big job of coaching Australia, under tough circumstances as he succeeded Darren Lehmann in the aftermath of the ball-tampering scandal of 2018. He was at the helm when Australia lost to India in Tests but his team bounced back to win an ODI series in India before reaching the semifinal of the ODI World Cup in 2019 and retaining the Ashes.

Langer also spoke about that stint and said the timing had to be right for a high-pressure job like coaching the Indian team. He said that he did it few years back with the Australian cricket team and its encompassing. The LSG head coach also said that the role is also exhausting and Rahul Dravid and Ravi Shastri can tell the same thing clearly as the pressure on winning for India is too much.
