Minister for Industry and Science Ed Husic will visit the United States of America from 1 to 6 June.
In San Diego, the Minister will lead the Australian presence at the BIO International Convention 2024 (BIO2024), championing the nation’s extensive capability in medical science and biotechnology.
BIO2024 is the largest and most comprehensive event for the global biotechnology industry, with over 20,000 participants and 7,000 companies from 84 countries expected to attend this year’s event.
Working with international partners to attract and enable investment in Australian ideas, the visit will also showcase the potential and opportunity of a Future Made in Australia.
Meeting with industry leaders during the visit, the Minister will highlight Australia’s vast economic and research strengths and the government’s commitment to growing the sector.
Australia’s health and medical research ranks 7th in the world, demonstrating our potential as a global hub for advanced manufacturing and clinical trials, with increasing scope to continue building on proven success.
Our world-leading therapeutic research includes areas such as, oncology, immunology and regenerative medicines like cell and gene therapies, along with nucleic acid therapeutics including next generation RNA-based therapeutics.
Encouraging investment and showcasing Australia’s commitment to research, development and manufacturing, Minister Husic will meet with a range of global biotech companies during his time in the US.
While in San Francisco, the Minister will also position Australia as a partner of choice for battery technology development and critical technology investment.
