A record-breaking powerplay for the Aussies

After winning the toss and bowling, Australia were all over Namibia from the get go. Namibia were 13/0 after 2 overs but ended up on 17/3 at the end of the powerplay. It was Australia’s best ever powerplay with the ball in their T20I history; they’d never previously conceded fewer than 20 runs.

Gerhard Erasmus’ shocking start with the bat

0* off 16 balls is considered a painfully slow start in Tests, let alone ODIs. But tonight in Antigua, Namibia skipper Gerhard Erasmus took 17 balls to get off the mark. It’s the longest any batter has taken to get off the mark in T20WC history.

Unsurprisingly, Namibia ended up scoring just 27 runs at the end of 10 overs.

No Starc? No problem. Ellis to the rescue!

Mitchell Starc was rested for tonight’s clash, but Nathan Ellis stepped up in his absence. The right-armer came in and registered figures of 3-1-12-1, beginning with a wicket maiden.

Ellis’ figures in T20WC 2024 now read 7-1-30-3.

Adam Zampa’s historic night out

Erasmus fought back well (36 off 43) but Namibia got bowled out for 72. The damage was done by Adam Zampa, who took four wickets to become the first Australian to take 100 T20I wickets. Zampa also, in the process, became the highest wicket-taker for Australia in T20WCs.

Warner, Head and Marsh obliterate Namibian bowlers

Chasing 73, it took only Australia 34 balls to finish the job. David Warner, Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh all registered a strike rate over 200. Across the 34 balls they faced, the trio hit an astonishing 15 boundaries — which was seven more than what Namibia managed in their entire innings.
