AUS vs BAN: Australia eclipse England to register elusive record in T20 World Cup history

Australia beat Bangladesh by 28 runs through the DLS method in the Super 8 clash and continued their stellar run in the T20 World Cup 2024 in Antigua on Thursday.

New Delhi: The Australian cricket team defeated Bangladesh by 28 runs via the DLS method in the T20 World Cup 2024, Super 8 clash at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on Thursday. The Aussies continued their dominance in the marquee event as they registered their eighth win on the trot which was highlighted by Pat Cummins’ hat-trick as David Warner’s batting masterclass.

The win wasn’t just another one for the Kangaroos as they also surpassed England to enter the history books of the T20 World Cups. The Aussies at first equaled themselves to make it their longest winning streak (8 matches) in the T20 internationals and also overtook arch-rivals England for most consecutive wins in the T20 World Cup history.

Cummins, Warner star in rain-hit match

In a rain-affected game that saw players running in and out frequently, the Australians restricted Bangladesh innings at 140/8 in 20 overs which was headlined by the hat-trick of Pat Cummins, the first of the 2024 edition. Cummins became just the second Australian to bag a T20 World Cup hat-trick and the seventh overall bowler to have achieved the feat in the T20 showpiece.

The rain gods had the last laugh as Australia couldn’t complete the 141-run chase and were helped by the DLS method which granted them a 28-run victory to remain unbeaten in the ongoing event. Had it not been for the rain, the Aussies nonetheless looked very comfortable cruising towards the win as Warner scored an unbeaten fifty and was partnered by Travis Head as both the openers delivered a flying start until rain made its way in and out.
