India vs Australia: Will Aussies play Josh Inglis and Cameron Green in crucial T20 World Cup 2024 clash? | Sporting News Australia

Australia will take on India in a must-win game of the Super 8 stage at the T20 World Cup 2024, at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, Saint Lucia, on Monday, June 24.

The current 50-over champions Australia are under huge pressure to secure a spot in the semi-finals, following their 21-run defeat to Afghanistan in the Group 1 clash on Sunday, at Kingstown, where they failed to chase down a target of 149 runs.

Following the loss, there have been discussions about potential changes in the team ahead of the big match in the Super 8 against Team India. The batters were blamed for their failure to build an inning and chase down a relatively modest target.

Will Josh Inglis and Cameron Green play in the Super 8 clash against India?

While there will be many talks about including either Josh Inglis or Cameron Green ahead of their Super 8 clash against India, Australia is unlikely to make major changes to their XI. They could, however, bring in Mitchell Starc back into the team, after he was rested against Afghanistan.

Australia rested their star left-arm quick, Starc for left-arm spinner Ashton Agar in the last match. It was, however, not a factor that contributed to their defeat as the left-arm spinner finished with figures of 0/17 including a maiden, in his four overs.

It is very likely that Starc could be brought back in for the big game against India, but the team would also like to fit Agar in the team somewhere, as a counter to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, in the powerplay. He was included in the XI during their last group stage at Saint Lucia match against Scotland as well.

Josh Inglis would be a good addition to the team, in place of either wicketkeeper, Matthew Wade or Tim David. Inglis will offer stability to the middle order, which Australia lacked against Afghanistan.

On the other hand, allrounder Cameron Green would be a player worth considering for the management, against India. Mitchell Marsh would have been replaced, if he were not the captain – with underwhelming scores of 14, 35, 18*, 8, 1 and 12 in his 6 innings in this T20 World Cup.

Marcus Stoinis and Tim David are, therefore, other candidates in the XI who can be replaced by Green. Between the two, Stoinis has scored two half-centuries in this World Cup while David has not had enough opportunities to make an impact.

Both Stoinis and Green will be good assets to have in the middle overs, both with the bat and the ball, while David is primarily considered only as a finisher in the team.
