Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting thinks that it’ll be difficult for the Baggy Green to find a replacement for David Warner. It is to be noted that Warner’s international career came to end after Australia crashed out of ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup following Bangladesh’s defeat to Afghanistan.

Warner had already announced that he’ll retire from T20Is after the T20 World Cup. The southpaw had already called quits in the ODIs and Tests earlier this year.

Ponting pulled aside Warner after Australia’s loss to India in Super 8 clash on Monday (June 24) and had a chat with him.

“I put my arm around him and said, ‘…just take a moment tonight to sit back by yourself and reflect on what’s been an unbelievable career across all three formats for Australia,’” Ponting said on ICC’s Digital Daily show.

“We know he retired in the summer from test cricket, but you’ll struggle to find a guy that’s had as big an impact on all three forms in Australian cricket than David Warner has.

“I’ve been able to play with him, I’ve been able to coach him in the IPL the last couple of years and I really enjoy his company. So he should be very proud of what he’s done,” he added.

Warner ended his T20I career with 3,277 runs in 110 games at an average of 33 and a strike rate of 143. He scored 28 fifties and a hundred in the shortest format with 100 not out being his highest individual score.

Warner is Australia’s one of the most successful openers of all time with 112 Tests and 161 ODIs to his name as well apart from his performance in T20Is.

He scored 8,786 runs in red-ball cricket to go with 6,932 runs in the 50-over cricket with a total 48 hundreds in both formats combined.
