Sky News tees up ‘world exclusive interview’ with Rupert Murdoch for The Australian doco

Sky News will premiere a new documentary, The Australian: 60 Years of News, next month, featuring “a world exclusive interview with the newspaper’s founder Rupert Murdoch.”

The one-hour program will air on July 15, at 8pm, and will hosted by Sky News host and associate editor of The Australian, Chris Kenny.

Paul Whittaker the CEO of Sky News Australia and former editor-in-chief of The Australian sat down with Murdoch for “a series of exclusive interviews”, where the media mogul “talks candidly about the early challenges of creating a national newspaper and the impact it had on the Australian media landscape,” according to Sky News.

The documentary will also feature as roll call of past and present journalists, including current editor-in-chief of The Australian, Michelle Gunn; editor-at-large Paul Kelly; former editor-in-chief Chris Mitchell; columnist Janet Albrechtsen; investigative journalist and podcast creator Hedley Thomas; and cartoonist Johannes Leak.

Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, and former Prime Ministers John Howard and Tony Abbott will also feature.

“It is impossible to imagine this country and our national debate without The Australian now,” Kenny said, “but its establishment, survival and evolution has been a story of imagination and determination that mirrors the national project it champions. It is a compelling and inspirational story to tell.”
