Australian driver Conor Somers walked away unscathed after a violent crash during Saturday morning’s qualifying session for the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge in Townsville.
Somers’ No. 71 Porsche 911 was launched into the air after a collision with Ross McGregor
on a blind corner at Turn 10 of the Reid Park Street Circuit.
The Porsche rolled multiple times before flying into a concrete barricade, coming to an eventual rest on its roof.
Somers, who did not sustain any serious injuries during the incident, crawled out of the driver’s seat window as red flags were waved on the circuit.

“Once you get through that turn eight, turn nine and you’re leaning into turn 10 that is a very fast blind corner,” Supercars legend Craig Lowndes said on the Fox Sports commentary.
“There’s been contact between two cars. That’s a heavy impact to move those concrete barriers … that’s huge force.”
Stewards needed to repair the barriers before Saturday morning’s Toyota GAZOO Racing Australia GR Cup race, which was red-flagged following a separate incident on the opening lap.
Supercars action gets underway with a qualifying session at 10.15am AEST, followed by the Top Ten Shootout at 12.05pm and the 88-lap Race 13 at 2.40pm.
