Former Nebraska basketball forward Jack McVeigh will play for the Australian national team in the Olympics for the first time in August.
McVeigh, who has been playing professionally in his home country since leaving NU after the 2017-18 season, is part of a roster that includes NBA players Josh Giddey, Dante Exum, Joe Ingles, Dyson Daniels and Josh Green.
McVeigh spent three years at Nebraska, appearing in 78 games while averaging 5.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per contest.
He has spent most of his professional career in Australia’s National Basketball League, winning a championship with the Tasmania JackJumpers in March.
Team Australia will begin play July 27. Its opponent is not yet known, according to a release, because qualifying tournaments in Greece and Spain haven’t finished. Australia won the bronze medal at the Tokyo Games in 2021.
