In a major development, Cricket Australia released the schedule for the Big Bash League 2024-25 season earlier today. The franchise tournament is all set to clash with the high-profile Test series between India and Australia.

According to Cricket Australia’s schedule, the Big Bash League 2024-25 season will kick off on December 15.

The opening match between Melbourne Stars and Perth Scorchers is expected to set the tone for a thrilling two months of cricket.

The league will feature a packed schedule, culminating in the grand final on January 27. This period aligns with the Australian summer holidays, ensuring maximum attendance and viewership.

However, one downside of the schedule could be the unavailability of senior Australian players due to clashes with the international calendar.

BBL 14 to clash with Border-Gavaskar Trophy

The Australian Cricket Team has two big home series coming up in the latter half of the year. Following a white ball series against Pakistan, the Aussies will be up against India for the high-profile Test series (Border-Gavaskar Trophy).

With Champions Trophy 2025 on the horizon, workload management plans for all format national players will also come into effect.

Regardless, Cricket Australia is confident that the tournament will be conducted smoothly, with maximum viewership and significant fan turnout.

“This is a brilliant schedule for fans, with uninterrupted action every night of the regular season and all the marquee games our fans love. We also can’t wait to welcome back members of the Australian Test team once again in January, taking advantage of a bigger window following the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Series,” CA’s Head of Big Bash League Alistair Dobson said in a statement.

Notably, BBL could also struggle to compete with ILT20 and SA20, as both tournaments are expected to begin in the first week of January.
