The Wyndam Championship, the final regular-season PGA Tour event, is here, and with comes a good deal of chaos, some 11th-hole jockeying for position and a few broken hearts on Sunday for those who’ll have just missed out on qualifying for the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Several Olympians will be making the trek from Paris to Greensboro (the Paris of North Carolina) to lock into the top 70 on the FedEx Cup points list and claim spots in the upcoming FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind. Those golfers include Shane Lowry (Ireland), Nick Taylor (Canada), Min Woo Lee (Australia) and Nicolai Højgaard (Denmark). There’s a real purse at stake this week too, unlike in the Olympics. The love of the game is great, but $1.4 million to the winner doesn’t hurt.

Forty of the top 70 pros in the FedEx Cup will tee off at Sedgefield Country Club, among them including top-40 pros Brian Harman, Robert MacIntyre, Sungjae Im, Keegan Bradley, Cameron Young, Akshay Bhatia, Shane Lowry, Billy Horschel and Justin Rose.

Last year’s winner, Lucas Glover, will need some similar magic this year if he wants to sneak into the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Glover is currently No. 76 in the standings and a back-to-back win at Sedgefield (the first since Sam Snead) would do wonders for his post-season campaign. Glover won by two shots in 2023 and then ran it back a week later at TPC Southwind. He jumped from No. 112 to No. 49 due to his Wyndham win. Almost as compelling as this Justin Thomas birdie chip…

This week’s winner will receive 500 FedEx Cup points and a $1.422 million cut of the $7.9 million purse.

Opened in 1926, Sedgefield Country Club is a Donald Ross design that has been the longtime host of the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship. The course co-hosted the inaugural Greater Greensboro Open (today’s Wyndham) in 1938, won by Sam Snead. The tournament has been played at several courses over the years, and Sedgefield has hosted since 2008. In 2007, the course underwent a $3 million restoration project aimed at transforming the layout back to Ross’ original intent. In typical Ross style, the greens are quite busy, with prominent slopes demanding the player stay below the hole. View Course Leaderboard
