Australian athletes will compete for medals in 11 sports at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Saturday, August 10, with the day promising top action in water polo, basketball, athletics, cycling, canoe sprint and diving among others.

The Aussie Stingers will take on Spain in the women’s water polo final at 11:35 PM today, aiming for their first gold medal since the Sydney 2000 Games.

Alice Williams and Gabriella Palm have been the two stand-out performers for the Stingers at Paris 2024. Alice is the country’s top-scorer with 16 goals while Gabriella leads the goal-keeping charts with 35 saves.

The Stingers ended the USA’s title run in the semi-finals to make Saturday’s gold medal match.

Meanwhile, the Australia vs USA semi-final in basketball ended in a heartbreak for the Opals, who will now regroup and prepare to battle for the bronze medal against the winner of France vs Belgium.

Australian track stars Jessica Hull and Mackenzie Little look poised for podium finishes in athletics. Jessica, a national record holder, is in top form and is a strong contender in the women’s 1500m. Mackenzie clinched bronze at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in the javelin throw and will be gunning for her first Olympic medal.

Track cyclists Sam Welsford and Kelland O’Brien, already gold medallists in the team pursuit at Paris 2024, will look to add to their medal tally in the men’s madison final.

Besides water polo, basketball, athletics and track cycling, Australian athletes will also compete for medals in breaking, artistic swimming, canoe sprint, diving, golf, sport climbing and weightlifting.

Tokyo 2020 gold medallist Thomas Green will be on the water in the men’s kayak single 1000m semi-final at 7:10 PM. Green is expected to be a strong contender in the final later in the day.

Divers Jaxon Bowshire and Cassiel Rousseau will contest the men’s 10m platform, with both the semi-finals and final scheduled for today.

On the golf course, Hannah Green sits at T11 going into the fourth and final round, while Minjee Lee is at T21, both will want to make a late charge for a medal.
