Before we can all get misty-eyed and the first strains of Good Riddance over a montage of Australian and international Olympic glory, we have a few more medals to hand out.
And it starts with the women’s marathon through the difficult Paris street course in five minutes.
After a controversial selection process, Australia will be represented by Sinead Diver, who finished 10th in Tokyo, Jessica Stenson and Genevieve Gregson.
Kenyan world record holder and defending champion Peres Jepchirchir, gold medallist in the 5,000m and 10,000m in Tokyo Sifan Hassan of The Netherlands, and top-ranked Ethiopian Tigst Assefa are all ones to watch.
