Paris 2024 Olympics, Australia’s medal events today, August 11: Get schedule, events and times

The Australian Olympic team is set to conclude its Paris 2024 Olympics campaign with a strong push for medals across four events on Sunday, August 11.

The country’s athletes will compete in the women’s marathon, two track cycling events and the women’s basketball medal match, looking to end their journey on a high note.

The Australian track cycling team, through Matthew Glaetzer and Matthew Richardson, will vie for medals in the men’s keirin.

Richardson clinched a silver in the men’s sprint and is in heat 3 of the keirin quarter-finals. Joining him on the track will be Matthew Glaetzer, a five-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist and bronze medalist in the team sprint at Paris 2024 alongside Richardson. Glaetzer is slated to compete in the keirin quarter-finals heat 1.

Georgia Baker, a seasoned competitor from Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, will feature in the women’s omnium races.

The Australian women’s basketball team will clash against Belgium in the bronze medal match today. The AUS vs BEL basketball match begins at 7:30 PM.

The Opals, third in basketball rankings, had a tricky outing in the semi-finals against the defending champions USA and lost 85-64. Belgium, world No. 6, lost the semi-final to host nation France 81-75.

The Opals have won six medals in Olympic basketball so far – three silver and three bronze medals. However, their last podium finish came at London 2012, where they won bronze.

Three women will compete in the marathon events on Sunday.

Sinead Diver, 47, is set to become the oldest Australian Olympian in athletics.

The 34-year-old Genevieve Gregson will feature at the Olympics for the first time as a mother.

Jessica Stenson achieved the entry standard for the Olympics in April barely six months after giving birth to her second child and is returning for her third Olympic Games.

The marathon at the Paris 2024 Olympics will start from the Hotel de Ville and run through iconic monuments like the Palace of Versailles, the Louvre, and the Eiffel Tower. The race will finish at Invalides.
