THE SANFL has today released its 55-player squad for the Under 17 Futures program set to get underway next month. Those selected will enter a three-week training block once their respective clubs conclude their finals campaigns, with the first session scheduled for Tuesday September 3.

While providing an early glimpse for how the 2025 South Australian Under 18 side will look, the program will also culminate in the annual Futures showcase game on SANFL League Grand Final day (September 22). Players will have the opportunity to show their wares on Adelaide Oval.
>> Ones to Watch: 2025 prospects | 2026 prospects
Of the 55 prospects selected, 40 fall into the current Under 17 category (2007-born). They will be eligible for next year’s AFL Draft. There are also 15 bottom-agers (2008-born) who made the cut and will attempt to play up a level at the 2025 Under 18 National Championships.
Arguably the leading talent in South Australia’s crop for next year is Central District midfielder Dyson Sharp. The 2023 Kevin Sheehan Medallist is joined by a fellow Bulldog who took out the same Under 16 honour this year in Dougie Cochrane – the state’s best 2026-eligible hopeful.
Sharp is among a solid bunch of players to have already donned the tri-colour jersey at Under 18 level. North Adelaide midfielder Samuel Cumming and Sturt wingman Harley Barker are also exciting talents, as is Eagles mid-forward Jevan Phillipou – the brother of St Kilda’s Mattaes.
Along with Cochrane, there are four more Under 16 All Australians in the mix; namely Jack Gordon (Central District), Ethan Herbert (North Adelaide), Archie Van dyk, and Angus White (both South Adelaide). Another to watch is Glenelg’s Koby Moir, the brother of 2023 Carlton draftee Ashton.
