Australian golfer Jeffrey Guan is fighting to save his eyesight after being struck in the face by a ball during a pro-am event. The incident occurred at a tournament south of Sydney. The 20-year-old was airlifted to a hospital for surgery.
His coach, Paul Davis, informed reporters that there are “fears he may lose some vision.”
“It’s truly awful,” Davis told the Australian Golf Digest.”It’s just the worst possible news after such an amazing week in California.”
According to a statement from the Australian PGA, Guan was hit just below his eye and received immediate treatment at the course before being transferred to a hospital for scans. He was later flown to Canberra for assessment by an eye specialist.
Guan recently signed with a management company that represents major winners Jon Rahm and Phil Mickelson. He made his US PGA Tour debut this month at the Procore Championship in California, where he posted scores of 69 and 75, narrowly missing the cut.
