Perth to Host Australian U14 Basketball Club Championships

  • Perth to welcome U14 Club Championships junior basketball event in 2025 for the first time
  • More than 700 participants from across the country to compete across six days
  • Significant boost to WA’s economy, tourism and hospitality businesses

Following the huge success of the HoopsFest basketball festival last week, Perth has been confirmed as the host of the U14 basketball club championships in 2025.

The junior basketball event will see more than 700 participants from Australia’s top 48 boys and girls’ junior teams travel to Western Australia next year, along with nearly 100 officials and hundreds of family members and supporters.

It is the first time Perth has hosted the six-day tournament, which will run from 27 September to 3 October 2025 at Willetton Stadium and is set to inject millions into WA’s economy, and tourism and hospitality businesses.

Mass participation events are a core part of the Cook Government’s overarching tourism strategy, as they attract thousands of competitors and generate valuable visitor spend across the State.

As stated by Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti:

“Following the success of last week’s HoopsFest Australia’s biggest basketball festival we are excited to announce the U14 Club Championships will be played on WA soil for the first time next September.

“Mass participation events like this are a crucial part of our events strategy, as they create vibrancy in the community, jobs for West Australians, and bring people to WA to experience all our state has to offer, while building a lasting social legacy.

“As well as enjoying the thrill of this large-scale competition, we encourage the families visiting WA next September to explore the array of activities and experiences on offer in Perth and its surrounds during the buzzing school holiday period.”

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman:

“The WA Government is proud to support sport at an early age to help foster the next generation of athletes, and hosting this important event on the competitive youth sports calendar is a big win for our state’s basketball-mad kids.

“Perth is home to first-class sporting venues, and it’s fantastic to see our investment in that infrastructure pay off as we secure a large-scale sporting competition like the U14 Club Championships to use venues like Willetton Stadium to their full potential.”

As stated by Riverton MLA Dr Jags Krishnan:

“We’re very excited to welcome competitors and spectators to Willetton Stadium next year for these club championships, which will bring in valuable visitor spend and support local businesses.

“Junior sporting events like this that attract hundreds of people to WA always create a great atmosphere as well, so it will be a fantastic week for our local community.”
