“There’s going to be a surprise performance of a favourite Australian artist that I look up to,” Perry said on Seven.
“She will be singing a little bit with me, I’ll be singing a little bit with her. I’ve been sworn to secrecy, locked up, chains, all of it.”
She’ll be supported by Aussie artists including singer/swimmer Cody Simpson, who will sing the national anthem, Christine Anu and Zipporah Corser-Anu, with the mother-daughter pair to perform for the First Nations Ceremony alongside the Songlines Youth Choir, and of course Mike Brady who will perform during the AFL retiring players motorcade ceremony.
Katy Perry’s Grand Final pre-show performance is expected to start at 1:40pm AEST, following the retiring players motorcade.
WHICH SONGS WILL KATY PERRY PERFORM AT THE GRAND FINAL?
The AFL and Katy Perry were at odds over which songs she would perform.
Perry reportedly wanted to sing two tracks from her controversial new album 143, but the league negotiated that down to one song, likely title track Woman’s World which peaked at No.63 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
It is likely the rest of her setlist will pull from her hits including I Kissed A Girl, Hot n Cold, California Gurls, Teenage Dream, Firework, Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.), Wide Awake, Roar and Dark Horse.
There was a brief non-controversy over whether Perry would perform Roar given the Brisbane Lions are playing in the game.
The performance is likely to last between 10 and 15 minutes, with the 2023 Grand Final pre-game show from KISS lasting around 12 minutes.
Katy Perry is being paid an estimated $5 million to perform at the Grand Final.
WHY IS KATY PERRY’S NEW ALBUM CONTROVERSIAL?
Katy Perry has been criticised for working with producer Dr Luke on her new album 143.
The eight-time Grammy-nominated songwriter, born Łukasz Sebastian Gottwald, was involved in a lengthy legal battle with the artist Kesha.
He denied the allegations of sexual, physical and verbal abuse during their decade working together and countersued. The two parties settled in 2023.
The album 143 also underperformed on music charts, with the single Woman’s World peaking at No.63 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and debuting at No.17 on the Australian AirCheck chart.
It received mostly mixed and negative reviews from music critics with some confused about the song’s feminist messaging given the involvement of Dr Luke.
