Update on jockey critically injured in fall at SA racecourse

A young jockey who was critically injured in a horror fall in Adelaide’s northern outskirts is now in a stable condition.

She was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition and was treated for spinal injuries and bleeding on the brain.

9News understands the horse suffered a heart attack and did not survive.

Racing SA chief executive Vaughn Lynch said the accident had rocked the whole industry.

“It wasn’t her fault, it was just one of those things that happens,” Lynch said.

“It was a very distressing incident for everyone on the ground and anyone who was watching.”

Her family is by her side as she remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Lam is an apprentice rider who moved to Adelaide from Hong Kong early in the year.

Since kickstarting her career in January, she’s ridden 16 winners from 139 rides.

Lam is expected to make a full recovery and a return to the race track.
