The Ashes will have a new look next summer when Australia takes on England.

In a significant shake-up to the schedule for the 2025/26 series, the first match will be held at Perth’s Optus Stadium beginning on November 21 next year.

It’s a major boost for the city, with the previous Ashes series not travelling west due to COVID-19 implications and instead being held in Tasmania.

Elsewhere in the schedule, Brisbane will host the day-night fixture between the old rivals for the first time ever in the second Test.

The Gabba has previously held pink-ball clashes against Pakistan, Sri Lanka and most recently, West Indies.

The last time an Ashes campaign in Australia started in a city other than Brisbane was more than four decades ago when the two sides met at the WACA.

The third match will be played at Adelaide Oval, before the customary Boxing Day fixture at the MCG and New Year’s Test at the SCG.

Cricket Australia’s executive general manager of events and operations Joel Morrison believes the confirmation of the schedule is a major win for all parties.

“The 2025-26 Ashes dates align with our recently released seven-year international schedule and we are grateful for the support state and territory governments are providing to enhance and grow our major events,” he said.

“The history and excitement of the Ashes make it one of world’s most iconic sporting events and we are delighted this fierce and electrifying rivalry will extend over two summers in 2025 – commencing with CommBank women’s Ashes this summer.

“We have been inundated with requests from fans around the world wanting to travel to Australia and attend the 2025-26 Ashes series.”

Australia retained the Ashes urn last year away from home with a 2-2 drawn series.
