West Australian cricket bosses will sit down with Cricket Australia staff on Thursday to map out a plan for Lance Morris and Jhye Richardson’s summer, with the prospect of a red-ball return still on the table.

WA Cricket officials are keen for both of their pace twins to feature in the Sheffield Shield before the Big Bash League break in December and January, The West Australian can reveal.

It is also expected Aaron Hardie, who is also on a Cricket Australia contract, will be in the mix to play WA’s Sheffield Shield game against Tasmania — which starts on Sunday — as a specialist batter.

Morris missed Sunday’s one-day win over Queensland with a quad issue, but is tracking for a return in a 50-over clash with the Tigers on October 25.

The tearaway fast bowler has spent time as a reserve to Australia’s frontline quicks across the past two home seasons. There is an expectation Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc may need to be rotated at some stage during the series with India.

Richardson has battled persistent injuries across the past few seasons and didn’t play after Christmas last summer.

He was the player-of-the-match in the win over the Bulls with 3-36 and the prospect of him playing club cricket for Fremantle on Saturday is also on the table.

“I will probably have a bit of a better idea around what they’re thinking with some of our group bouncing out of the first round of shield cricket and the early parts of the summer,” WA’s head of cricket Kade Harvey told The West.
