Friday play at the PGA Tour’s Shriners Children’s Open has been delayed by at least four hours due to high winds.

The tour announced Friday morning that due to 50 mph winds in the Las Vegas area, the competition at TPC Summerlin was paused for two hours. Suspension of play was extended by another two hours around 7 a.m. local time as conditions remained dangerous.

“The Friday morning delay at the Shriners Children’s Open is due to extremely high winds we are experiencing in Las Vegas,” said PGA Tour referee Stephen Cox. “For the safety of operational staff, tournament volunteers, spectators and our athletes and caddies, we have extended the delay as we continue to monitor the situation.”

The tour is targeting around 11 a.m. local time for the resumption of play, although officials noted they would continue to monitor the situation. According to forecasts, winds are supposed to drop down to 25 mph in the afternoon.

The Shriners Children’s Open has been part of the tour schedule since 1983. Tom Kim is attempting to three-peat as champion this week, although is currently eight shots back of first-round leader Taylor Pendrith.
