World Amateur 4 Player Best Ball Champions Tournament (WACT4BBB) – Australian Golf Digest

The professional tournament for amateurs

If you’re a passionate amateur golfer, let us introduce you to the World Amateur 4 Player Best Ball Champions Tournament (WACT4BBB). WACT4BBB is a first-of- its-kind tournament that will fly 22 qualifying teams to play in an all-expenses-paid Finals Championship held across four premium Australian golf courses. If you make the finals in this handicap event, you’ll represent your club and state for a chance to win a coveted purple jacket – just like the pros! All you need is a current GolfLink card and a group of friends (who are members of a club) that you wouldn’t mind playing a few rounds with.

Yep, entry is easier than sinking a putt with a Scotty Cameron and costs a fraction of the price at only $30. And there’s still plenty of time to rustle up a team before the tournament gets underway in 2025 – but with a wildcard entry to the Finals drawn from the first five teams to register at each club, you won’t want to delay!

There are two separate stages to the tournament.

Qualifying trials: January to September 2025

The qualifying rounds are played across three qualifying trial periods of three months each, giving plenty of opportunities to play. Even better, they’re played at your local club under the normal rules of golf, during your club’s monthly medal rounds. Play in one, two or all three qualifying trials for your chance to qualify, or be in the running for one of two random-draw entries to the Finals Championship.

All you have to do to compete in a qualifying trial is register a team online, pay the modest entry fee ($30 per person), then play the two qualifying rounds of the trial. At least one team member will need to finish first, second or third in A, B, or C grade in the first round for the team to be considered for Finals selection. The score in the second round then adds to the first-round score to give the team’s overall score. The 20 best teams will earn Golden Ticket entry to the Finals Championship.

There are also two lucky-draw Golden Tickets up for grabs: one drawn from each club’s first five signed-up teams (we reward enthusiasm!); and one drawn from every team to complete their trial, even if they failed to qualify for Finals selection (anyone can have a bad day! Then, it’s off to the Finals Championship to decide the tournament winners.

Finals Championship, November 11-17, 2025

The Finals Championship is our crowning glory. If your team is one of the 22 winning teams from the qualifying rounds, you’ll be invited on an expenses-paid trip (as per Golf Australia rules) to represent your club and state at a series of four Finals rounds held in northern Tasmania and King Island. Here, competitors will face off across four of Australia’s best links courses – Cape Wickham, Ocean Dunes, Barnbougle Dunes and Barnbougle Lost Farm.

The winning team of the tournament will be determined by the results across all four courses. Each winner will receive a coveted purple jacket and the opportunity to return the next year to defend their title of the best four-player best ball team in the land.

Registration is open

If WACT4BBB doesn’t sound like the best amateur golf tournament in Australia, what would make it better? Maybe giving all entrants a free three-month subscription to Australian Golf Digest, the authority Down Under on How to Play, What to Play and Where to Play? Yep, that’s also included!
