19 Australian companies keen to invest in technology: Minister

Jakarta (ANTARA) –
At least 19 Australian companies have expressed an interest in investing in Indonesia’s technology sector, Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid revealed here on Wednesday.

“This is very positive (development) along with the increasing role of the digital sector in Indonesia’s economic growth,” she said after a meeting with the Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Penny Williams.

Indonesia and Australia have formulated the 2025–2029 Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Action Plan, which covers economic cooperation, training scholarships, and digital business innovation.

“Along with the digital transformation efforts, the development of cooperation between the two countries is very positive,” she noted.

She further stressed the need to step up cybersecurity cooperation as both countries are facing challenges in implementing digital government initiatives.

She also expressed the hope for increased dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation to realize a safe cyberspace and support the economic growth of both countries.

“I encourage Indonesia and Australia to routinely discuss cybersecurity issues, including cyberthreat perceptions and responses to harmful cyber activities,” she said.

“Indonesia and Australia are vital strategic partners, as evidenced by regular visits by leaders and high-ranking officials to exchange information and insights on cybersecurity,” she added.

Ambassador Williams said she hopes that cooperation between Australia and Indonesia can continue and be strengthened further.

The cooperation established between the two countries in the communications and digital sectors has so far included the Australia Award scholarship program for artificial intelligence training, visits by Australian technology companies to Indonesia, strengthening Southeast Asian economic strategies, and cybersecurity training.
