The Melbourne Cup is back for another year, with some new faces and returning thoroughbreds for the biggest race in Australia.
Caulfield Cup runner-up Buckaroo is still considered a strong possibility to win despite a poor barrier draw, whilst Vauban, Onesmoothoperator and Absurde are also receiving support in the betting markets.

Who is riding Vauban in 2024 Melbourne Cup?
After an underwhelming run last year, a new jockey is in place for Vauban.
William Buick, a Norwegian-British 36-year-old, has won Group 1 races in countries all over the world, but hasn’t been able to crack the big time in Australia, will that change on Cup day?
Who is riding Buckaroo in 2024 Melbourne Cup?
One of the other favourites in Buckaroo will be helmed by Joao Moreira, an experienced Brazilian jockey based in Hong Kong.
He will be out for redemption after finishing second in last year’s Melbourne Cup whilst riding Soulcome.
Who is riding Onesmoothoperator in 2024 Melbourne Cup?
American horse Onesmoothoperator will be under the control of Craig Williams.
He is one of the best Australian jockeys, having won the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate, and the Melbourne Cup, the latter coming in 2019 with Vow and Declare.
