Thirty-six grants totalling $38 million have been awarded by the Australian Research Council (ARC) under the 2025 ARC Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities (LIEF) scheme.
LEIF supports eligible organisations with research infrastructure, equipment and facilities, with the goal of having this shared between higher education organisations and industry.
“The LIEF Scheme supports outstanding basic, strategic basic and applied research and research training through the acquisition of research equipment and infrastructure and access to national and international research facilities,” said the acting ARC CEO Dr Richard Johnson.
“This funding ensures the transfer of knowledge, skills and ideas as a foundation to strengthen the scale and focus of existing and emerging areas of research.”
The funding is provided over five years.
By institution, The University of Adelaide had the highest number of successful applications (five projects funded), followed by The University of Melbourne (four) and The University of Sydney, University of Wollongong, and RMIT University (three each.)
By discipline, the most grants went to Engineering, Information and Computing Sciences (16), followed by Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Earth Sciences (11), and Biological Sciences and Biotechnology (six.)
