After an unexpected home defeat in the ODI series, Australia will now take on Pakistan in an upcoming three-match T20I series, with the first match scheduled for this Thursday in Brisbane.
Australia, eager to recover from their 2-1 loss in the ODIs, will enter the series without most of their key players. However, newly appointed T20I captain Josh Inglis, despite his lack of international captaincy experience, will aim to steer the team effectively.
On the other side, Pakistan is riding high after clinching their first ODI series win on Australian soil in 22 years. After this historic triumph, they’ll be looking to carry their momentum into the T20I opener and continue their winning streak.
The Sporting News looks at the key details ahead of this game, including how to watch the match, kickoff times and the latest lineup news.

Australia’s T20 squad will see some key changes from the one they fielded in the T20 World Cup this past June. Several seasoned players, including Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, and Travis Head, will be absent, with Head currently on paternity leave. On the bowling front, key figures like Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc are also unavailable as they prepare for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
In a fresh development, Josh Inglis is set to lead the T20 side, marking his debut as captain in the format soon after his recent stint leading the ODIs. Tim David and Nathan Ellis are joining the squad, while Matt Short and Jake Fraser-McGurk will open the batting, as they did in the ODIs. Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis are also there in the squad as the seasoned allrounders.
Additionally, Josh Philippe has been brought in to replace Cooper Connolly, who sustained a hand injury in the third ODI.
Australia predicted XI: Matthew Short, Jake Fraser, Tim David, Josh Inglis (c & wk), Marcus Stoinis, Maxwell, Hardie, Nathan Ellis, Zampa, Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett.
Pakistan’s squad has gotten some strength by the additions of newcomers Abbas Afridi and Jahandad Khan, adding strength to the bowling lineup. In batting, Omair Yousuf and Sahibzada Farhan provide fresh options, with leg-spinner Sufiyan Muqeem bringing a valuable slow-bowling choice.
Usman Khan, a middle-order batter who recently joined the team during the T20 World Cup, adds depth to the batting side. Three versatile all-rounders: Arafat Minhas, Irfan Khan Niazi, and Salman Agha are also included to reinforce the middle order.
Led by Mohammad Rizwan, who has demonstrated impressive captaincy skills in Australia, Pakistan retains much of its regular lineup. The pace attack remains consistent, likely featuring the familiar trio of Haris Rauf, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah, as seen in their recent ODI series.
Pakistan predicted XI: Babar Azam, Rizwan (c & wk), Usman Khan, Omair Yousuf, Haseebullah, Salman Agha, Sufiyan Muqeem, Haris Rauf, Shaheen Afridi, Irfan Khan, Naseem Shah.
