Clearly, Cameron Smith and Lucas Herbert know it takes two to tango.

And it was obvious throughout the first 10 holes on day three at the NSW Open. The two LIV Golf stars and playing partners on Saturday wanted to dance, especially when both sent missiles off the tee at the 349-metre, par-4 10th at Murray Downs Golf and Country Club.
Smith gave his drive the business, taking the ball over the tree-line and landing just short of the green. Moments later, Herbert showed his size advantage when he effortlessly sent driver the same distance and nestled it short of the putting surface. Some call it the dance floor.

Smith nearly chipped in for eagle and tapped in for birdie a minute before Herbert matched him with a 3.

But on the latest stages of the back nine it was Smith who broke away. Birdies at number 14 and 16 gave him a sizable lead before the first stumble of the day – a double-bogey 6 at the par-4 17th. Smith made par on 18 for a 66. At 15-under-par through three rounds, he led Corey Lamb (67) by two shots.

After going head-to-head with Smith, Herbert made double bogeys at 13 and 16 to shoot a one-over 72, relegating him to a tie for third at 11-under. Smith is in the driver’s seat for a first official win of 2024.

More to come…
