The off-spinner wrapped up Victoria’s first innings on Saturday by removing tailender Peter Siddle, caught at short leg for 8, returning two days later to complete the hat-trick by dismissing opener Ashley Chandrasinghe young gun Campbell Kellaway with his first two deliveries.

Chandrasinghe was bowled for two after edging the ball into his pads with it trickling onto the stumps before Rocchiccioli produced an absolute peach to knock over Kellaway for a golden duck the next delivery, turning sharply and clipping the top of off stump.

Earlier this month, seamer Brody Couch became the first West Australian to snare a Sheffield Shield hat-trick, helping the reigning champions secure an innings victory over Tasmania in Hobart.

Rocchiccioli finished with match figures of 5-162 as Victoria chased down the 120-run target with eight wickets in hand.

Opener Marcus Harris and captain Peter Handscomb both peeled off fifties during the chase, combining for an unbeaten 103-run partnership for the third wicket.
Earlier, Western Australia was bowled out for 325, with wicketkeeper Joel Curtis cracking his maiden first-class century, an unbeaten 119 that featured 17 boundaries. Victorian seamer Sam Elliott claimed 4-47, while rising star Fergus O’Neill contributed three wickets.

Rocchiccioli continues pressing his case to become Nathan Lyon’s accomplice for next year’s Test tour of Sri Lanka, heaping pressure on Victorian tweaker Todd Murphy.

The spectacled 24-year-old has been Lyon’s heir apparent since last year’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy campaign in India, but Rocchiccioli’s recent Sheffield Shield performances have given national selectors plenty to ponder.

Western Australia will next face South Australia at Adelaide Oval from Saturday.
