Superstar Australian batter Glenn Maxwell was seen grabbing at his left hamstring and hobbling off Bellerive Oval during his side’s third T20 international against Pakistan on Monday night.

During Australia’s fielding innings, Maxwell was helped off the ground after suffering a hamstring complaint, which Cricket Australia confirmed was a low-grade strain.

But it was nothing more than the 36-year-old lightly running to chase the ball which sent his hamstring over the edge.

Maxwell was treated by the medical staff as he grabbed low down his leg, almost at the back of his knee.

“He’s grabbing a left hamstring, Maxwell. He wasn’t sprinting; he was just jogging past the ball,” Mark Howard said on Fox Cricket.

“That doesn’t look good at all.”

Maxwell looked to have accelerated too quickly with the movement leaving him ginger.

He was seen with his tracksuit on at the back of Australia’s bench during the 16th over of Pakistan’s innings.

Maxwell looked uncomfortable and upset when he returned from the rooms.

“Glenn Maxwell looks pretty sore there, he’s got the tracksuit on. You wouldn’t expect him to be batting,” Howard said.

It leaves concerns for his upcoming BBL season with the Melbourne Stars.

Sean Abbott replaced Maxwell on the field for the remaining overs.

The Big Bash League season will begin on December 15, with Maxwell’s Stars set to face the Perth Scorchers.
