Childish Gambino has cancelled his Australian and New Zealand leg of The New World tour.

In a statement sent to ticketholders, Gambino (AKA Donald Glover) recognised that his recovery from a recent surgery was taking longer than expected.

“Unfortunately, my path to recovery is taking longer than expected,” he said.

“The upcoming concerts in Australia and New Zealand are cancelled. One of the last things I’d ever want to do is disappoint my fans.

“I really appreciate the support you have shown and know that I will do what I can to give u an exceptional experience when the time is right. Thank you.”

This cancelled tour comes after Gambino cancelled the remainder of his North American, UK and Europe dates following a hospital visit in October.

“After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to make sure of an ailment that had become apparent,” he wrote.

“As of now I have surgery scheduled and need time out to heal.”

Childish Gambino’s The New World tour was meant to kick off in Auckland on 28 January before making its way around Australia in February, with extra shows added to Sydney and Melbourne to meet demands.

Ticketek has advised that refunds will automatically be made to purchasers.
