Aussies with a keen sense of adventure and who don’t mind the cold could earn more than $200,000 per year by living and working in Antarctica. The Australian Antarctic Program (AAP) has launched a major recruitment drive and is searching for tradies, chefs, medical practitioners and other workers to fill hundreds of jobs.

More than 270 of the once-in-a-lifetime jobs are up for grabs. Successful applicants will help maintain Australia’s three scientific research stations in Antarctica in David, Mason and Casey, and one on sub-Antarctic Macquarie Island.

Tradies are among the workers needed, with electricians and plumbers able to earn a base salary of $145,142 per year. Sparkies at the Antarctic bases will work on electrical systems, including refrigeration, the building monitoring control system, and the fire detection systems.
