Australian No.3 Labuschagne was mic’d up by Fox Cricket on day one of the first Test against India in Perth and hilarity ensued.
Labuschagne and Smith are notoriously close mates over their shared obsession with cricket and batting.
But the eccentric Australian batter directed a sledge Smith’s way as a cold wind swept Perth Stadium on day one.
“How many overs until Smudge calls for a vest?” Labuschagne said.
“I’m going one, one over. The vest. I can feel it. It’s vest weather.”

It is hard to keep Labuschagne quiet on the field and he celebrated debutant Nathan McSweeney’s catch with his first touch in Test cricket in style.
“Yes ‘Buddha’ (McSweeney), that’s a lovely grab,” Labuschagne said.

“He’s on the board the Big Cheese. Come on, that’s good. Big Cheese, that’s a nice catch too.
“That’s nice, straight in the bread basket. Oh your finger is bleeding.”
Later Usman Khawaja questioned Labuschagne on some changes he noticed to his Australian team pants, prompting an admission from his teammate.
“Are your pants tailored?” Khawaja asked.
“Yeah shorter, mum did it.
“Mrs Labuschagne lovely work on the pants,” Khawaja said.

“Great tailor, great dress maker,” Labuschagne said into his mic.
“Thank you mummy,” Khawaja added.
Labuschagne then directed some high praise for his skipper Pat Cummins during a fiery spell on day one.
“Terrific bowling,” Labuschagne said.
“That’s a seedy (seed – good ball).
“That’s why he is the best.”
He later celebrated a catch from Alex Carey off Mitchell Starc with trademark excitement.
“Yes you beauty,” Labuschagne said.
“Alex great catch well done.”

However, Labuschagne saved his best moment for predicting the demise of India superstar Virat Kohli, who was out for 5 coming forward to a short ball that caught his bat on the way through.
Labuschagne noticed Kohli was batting far out of his crease and predicted to McSweeney that if the bowlers dragged it short, the bounce in Perth would bring Kohli undone.
“All that we need to do now is drag our length,” Labuschagne said to McSweeney.
“Hold our length and he is just going to nick it off the back.”
Moments later Kohli nicked off in that exact fashion and Labuschagne let everyone know about it.
“Yeah like that, just like that” Labuschagne said.
