In calling his grandmother a witch following his RSM Classic victory, Maverick McNealy was actually paying her a compliment. That said, she still sounds like somebody we wouldn’t want to mess with.

During his press conference following his maiden win, McNealy was asked by a reporter if he had had a chance to talk to his grandmother, who he revealed he has a deal with on certain weeks where he plays particularly well.
“Haven’t gotten to talk to her yet,” McNealy said. “I’ve had a deal with her since my days on the Korn Ferry Tour where if I make $50,000 in a given week, I had to send her flowers. She doesn’t seem to mind that that happens a lot more with PGA Tour purses than on the Korn Ferry Tour.”
Sunday was the 13th time it happened this season for McNealy, though this time he cleared well over $50,000. McNealy, who will never want for money in his life (Google “Maverick McNealy dad” for more information), made $1.368 million on Sunday at Sea Island, giving him just over $4.7 million in on-course earnings this year. Grandma is getting a little more than a bouquet of flowers this week.
And if she doesn’t? She might literally cast a spell on Mav. His words, not ours.
“My grandma’s a witch,” McNealy said. “If I forget to send her flowers, weird stuff happens. Food poisoning, club snap, balls crack. It’s the weirdest stuff ever. So I’ve got to stay on that. I should probably get her something a little extra special for winning.”
Yeah, that’d be smart. Can’t be having food poisoning around the holidays.
