Cameron Smith is going to be a dad.
In late March next year, the 2022 British Open winner and his wife Shanel are going to welcome a baby into the world several weeks before the 2025 Masters.
“I’m more excited than anything,” Smith told Australian Golf Digest on Wednesday at the Australian Open at Kingston Heath and Victoria GC.
The former world No.2 found out the great news in late July around the time of LIV Golf London where he finished tied second behind Jon Rahm.
“We found out in London and I had a really good week there,” three-time LIV winner Smith said. “We had a really cool moment (when we found out). It’s going to be awesome.”
Smith has never lacked perspective. The Brisbane native has been known for his ability to switch off from golf and not let his on-course results affect his personal life. But the multiple winner across golf’s three biggest tours does anticipate even more perspective as a father.
“Yeah, there will be a lot of responsibility and a lot more pressure but I think that in itself makes you work harder and makes you a better person and maybe a better golfer.”
