Launched in August 2023, the free online course supports early educators through to experienced teachers to build the skills and confidence to deliver fun and engaging PE lessons while earning professional learning hours for their development.
The team behind the PE – Essential skills for primary teachers course, including members of the ASC’s Sporting Schools and Sport Learning Centre teams, Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (ACHPER) Victoria, Clipo and Instructional Designer Mark Style, attended the LearnX awards in Melbourne, which recognises multiple fields within learning, development, and talent management across corporate, education and public service sectors worldwide.
The ASC course swept the board, winning first place (Platinum) in the categories of Best Online Learning, eLearning Project, and Accessibility, as well as being a runner-up (Diamond) for Best Video Content and Best Free eLearning Resource.
ASC Sporting Schools Project Manager and former teacher Matthew Turnbull says the recognition validates the hard work and collaboration required to bring the course to fruition.
“Teachers have praised the course for its practical, easy-to-follow modules, interactive content, and immediate impact on their ability to create engaging PE experiences,” Turnbull said.
“Confident and well-equipped teachers lead to better-structured PE lessons, which helps kids develop physical skills, improve mental health, and helps foster a lifelong love for sport.”
“The recognition at the LearnX Awards motivates us to keep driving change in the physical education space.”
The PE – Essential skills for primary teachers allows teachers to work through the six modules at their own pace and features expert tips and easy-to-use lesson plans which align with the Health and Physical Education strand for each year band of the Australian Curriculum.
