The racing world is in shock after the tragic death of King Kirk, the early favourite for the 2025 Golden Slipper.
The promising colt, trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, passed away on Tuesday following a freak accident at the Randwick racecourse horse pool.
During a routine swimming session under the supervision of his regular handler, King Kirk panicked and ingested a large amount of water.
Despite immediate efforts by his handlers, Australian Turf Club staff, and veterinarians, the colt could not be saved.
“King Kirk was routinely swimming… when he panicked, causing him to swallow a significant amount of water,” the Waterhouse and Bott stable said in a statement.
“Despite efforts… he sadly could not be saved.”
The Breeders’ Plate winner was being prepared for a Magic Millions 2YO Classic campaign in January.
