Google’s top government affairs executive in Australia has quietly departed the Alphabet-owned tech giant in the thick of a Labor reform agenda dominated by plans for new rules for the technology and media sectors.
Lucinda Longcroft, who fronted a Senate committee in August to answer questions about artificial intelligence, left Google last month following a five-year stint as the search giant’s director of government affairs and public policy in Australia and New Zealand.

“After five years leading Google Australia and New Zealand’s public policy team, Lucinda left Google last month,” a Google spokesman told Capital Brief in a statement, confirming the departure.
“She led the team through an important time in technology policy and was instrumental in launching Google’s $1 billion Digital Future Initiative — we thank her for her tremendous contribution.”
