Australian great’s advice for floundering Labuschagne

Australian great’s advice for floundering Labuschagne

Former Australian Test captain Mark Taylor has called for calm in the host nation’s camp, after their dismal 295-run loss to India in the first Test.

Despite Australia’s batsman failing to rise to the occasion in Perth, it hasn’t left Taylor panicked.

“Not at this stage,” Taylor told 9News when asked if he would make any changes to the current side.

“It’s easy to call for change, but sometime harder to find it.”

Taylor also declared that Australia’s painful outing should inspire the side to comeback and show that there is still fight.

“You’re allowed to have one poor performance. What we’ve got to see now form this team is the side bounce back,” he said.

And that understanding from Taylor extends to under-fire batsman Marnus Labuschagne, who has reached double digits just once in his past nine innings.

“It’s not easy when things are going against you. That’s the ugly side of Test match cricket. You’re under the microscope all the time,” he said.

“Marnus Labuschagne is not having a great year. He knows that. But he’s had some very good years.

“He knows it is in there. He’s got Test hundreds … he’s just got to find a way to get through it.”

And the Australian great says the method to winning isn’t all that difficult to work out, if Australia can get off on teh right foot in the day/night Test, starting next week.

“India are playing the better cricket. They’ve got a lot less worries than Australia have at the moment,” he said.

“But things can change. I have played in sides where we’ve lost big and then won the next Test match. You can turn it around.”

Australia and India face off in the second Test at Adelaide Oval, starting on December 6.
