With eye on the future, TaylorMade acquires Logan Olson Putters – Australian Golf Digest

Before last year’s Hero World Challenge, Logan Olson was simply a twentysomething with a passion for putter design. Crafting putters out of a small machine shop in Fortuna, California, Olson’s career trajectory was forever altered when Scottie Scheffler’s team reached out with a request to make an Anser-style blade for the world number one.

Scheffler went on to win in the Bahamas and elevate Olson’s place in the putter hierarchy. Other requests soon followed from some of the biggest names in the game, including Nelly Korda and Collin Morikawa. The 27-year-old was suddenly making waves in a category dominated by the likes of Odyssey, Scotty Cameron, Ping and TaylorMade.

When you’re the new kid on the block, it doesn’t hurt to have a major brand backing your vision, especially when they have a stable of the biggest names in professional golf. On Tuesday, TaylorMade officially announced the acquisition of Logan Olson and “its portfolio of golf and experiential brands.”

Considered a “generational talent” by TaylorMade brass, Olson’s creativity and fondness for machining led the equipment manufacturer to believe he could be a major player in the putter space in the future.

“It’s not every day you stumble upon someone like Logan,” said Brian Bazzel, TaylorMade’s VP of product creation. “His ability to merge creativity with such a technical process is nothing short of remarkable.”

Olson will continue as the principal designer of all Olson products, while utilizing TaylorMade’s operational and manufacturing capabilities to expand its future offerings.

“I’ve always appreciated that TaylorMade is a brand that isn’t afraid to take risks and try something different,” Olson said. “I feel a resemblance to that in my own work and thoughts on approaching new projects. Being able to utilize the feedback of the best players in the world helps push design criteria to a completely different place.”

Coming on the heels of Olson’s latest Craft Batch No. 3 design, TaylorMade announced Scheffler, Korda, Morikawa and Tommy Fleetwood will offer feedback on future Craft Batch designs. Olson also plans to increase its putter matrix with fresh blades and mid-mallets in an attempt to expand its Tour reach.
