‘World-class dancer’: NFL star’s wild Raygun offer

NFL star Camryn Bynum has declared he’s keen to link up with Rachael Gunn in the off-season after he mimicked the viral Australian breakdancer in an on-field celebration.

And “Raygun”, as the Olympic breaker is more commonly known, has made it clear she digged the dance performed by Bynum, who celebrated an intercept by busting out some of Gunn’s moves during the Minnesota Vikings’ 12-7 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars this week.

“Oh, 1000 per cent, whether it’s a battle, challenge her,” Bynum told TMZ when asked if he was keen to collaborate with Gunn.

“I’m not that good of a dancer. She’ll probably kill me; she’s a world-class dancer.

“But, for sure, like I said, I’m a fan, so if I can be able to meet up in the off-season, do a video or anything, I’d for sure be willing to do it.”

Gunn has copped global ridicule, and is even a source of hatred for some, after she produced moves such as the hopping kangaroo, the slithering snake and the sprinkler during her Olympic campaign, which yielded no wins and zero points.

Fuming at Gunn and the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), tens of thousands signed a petition calling for “immediate transparency and accountability”.

Many people are angry that Gunn was backed by Australian taxpayer money to, in their view, produce substandard routines.

Bynum, on the contrary, is among the 37-year-old’s biggest cheerleaders.

“I’m a big fan,” Bynum said in an interview immediately after the Vikings’ win.

“She went out there and had fun and that’s what I do on the field.

“I’ve been saving for that and it’s been a while since I did a celly [celebration].”

TMZ obtained a video in which Gunn was filmed watching Bynum’s dance.

“Oh my gosh!” Gunn said.

“What vocab. I love it. Finishing with the kangaroo, teammates got involved, crowd’s cheering. That’s a celebration.”

In an interview with Nine’s Today on Monday, Gunn denied she had quit competing, claiming comments she had made in a radio interview last week had been interpreted incorrectly.

Gunn said on Today misinterpreted comments had been “turned into a story”.

“I was talking on 2DayFM about how I’m not going to do certain competitions anymore, which didn’t seem like such a big deal because breaking’s not going to be in the Olympics [at the Los Angeles 2028 Games] anyway,” Gunn said.

“But I’m still going to be part of community jams, or I’d like to go to community jams and still dance and still break.

“[I] never used the word ‘retire’, but it just caught onto the news cycle.”

Today presenter Sarah Abo chimed in.

“So you’re not retiring?” Abo said.

“I’m not retiring!” Gunn laughed.

“Honestly, try and stop me. I’m not ever going to stop dancing.

“So, if you hear that again you know that it’s not the truth.”

Gunn was among the most popular Halloween costumes late last month with many people across the globe dressing up in a Team Australia tracksuit and pulling off her viral moves to celebrate the American tradition.

“That is just crazy, it is so wild and it is still something that I’m trying to process,” Gunn said of her exploding celebrity status.

“I don’t think I will process it ever completely.”
