The West Australian pulled up sore after bowling 17 overs during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series opener in Perth, the most he’s produced in a Test match since 2019.
He has continued battling soreness heading into the second Test at Adelaide Oval, with fellow all-rounder Beau Webster added to the Australian squad as injury cover.
Speaking to reporters in Adelaide on Wednesday, spinner Nathan Lyon offered some encouraging remarks about Marsh’s fitness, but declared he was willing to take on the extra workload should it be required.
“I dare say you will see him bowl tonight,” Lyon said.
“I am not concerned about Bison’s (Marsh’s) fitness to be honest. He has been brilliant for us in the games he has come back in. I know he came in that game in Leeds (last year) and really dominated that one.

“I have full confidence in Bison and to be honest I am happy to bowl his overs.
“Marnus ran in and bowled seam-up the other day, but I honestly think we will see Mitch Marsh bowl.
“I’m very clear on my role within the team, so nothing really changes with me. If I get the opportunity to bowl more overs, I’ll jump at it.”
However, Marsh didn’t roll the arm over on Wednesday, suggesting Marnus Labuschagne shapes as the team’s fourth seamer for the day-night contest.
It comes after Australian seamer Josh Hazlewood was ruled out of the Adelaide Test with a side injury, with Scott Boland expected to replace him in the starting XI.
