Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has admitted he was “surprised” at the backlash behind his comment’s during the first Test against India after suggestions there was division in the dressing room.
During the Perth Test, Hazlewood was asked after day three about Australia’s plans to try and score 522 runs for victory.
“You probably have to ask one of the batters that question,” he responded.

Aussie great Adam Gilchrist said there was “potentially” division in the camp on Fox Cricket as a result of those comments while David Warner rejected that.
Michael Vaughan said he was “staggered” by the press conference.
Speaking ahead of the next Test in Brisbane, Hazlewood was taken back by the reaction.
“A little bit surprised,” Hazlewood said.
“Walking out of that press conference, I thought nothing of it, (it was) a normal one for me.
“I think obviously the dead air there for a while, 10 days between games, (it was) something to talk about.
“I think that stuff’s all done now.”
Hazlewood was ruled out of the Test in Adelaide due to a side strain injury, with Scott Boland impressing as his replacement.
The fast bowler said the next 24 hours will be crucial for his fitness after bowling on the centre wicket at Adelaide on Monday.
“It’s not necessarily your typical side strain, which I’ve had a couple in my career,” he said.
“It’s caused me a lot of trouble over the last few years, but perfect prep this year (heading into the first Test).
“I played the Shield game and ticked all that off and I was very happy where I was and it still happened, so I was pretty annoyed for a few days.
“If this (Adelaide) was the last Test of the summer, I could have potentially run the gauntlet and played.
“I think I would have been in a pretty bad state by the end of the game, even though it was only a short (match) but it just wasn’t quite right.”
