Star quick under cloud as villain faces the music

India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is under a fitness cloud heading into the third Test after both he and teammate Mohammed Siraj missed training on Tuesday.

The superstar fast bowler, who tore through Australia in the series opener, sent a scare through the touring camp in Adelaide when he required medical attention.

Bumrah eventually rose to his feet and continued playing, but was an absentee from the side’s net session this week as preparations ramp up for The Gabba.

While the rest of the bowling group went at full-throttle during the session according to The Sydney Morning Herald, both of the opening quicks skipped it.

At this stage, it appears that it is solely workload management – but Bumrah did spend time with the team’s strength and conditioning coach away from the main group.

It comes as Siraj faces the heat following a fiery exchange with Travis Head over the weekend, which resulted in both players being sanctioned by the ICC.

Siraj and Head were docked demerit points by the game’s governing body, but only the Indian played was fined 20 per cent of his match fee after the verbal stoush.

When quizzed by the Herald following the punishment, Siraj was tight-lipped.

“Yeah man, it’s all good,” the 30-year-old said.

“I am going to the gym now.”

The third Test will kick off on Saturday morning in Brisbane, with the series locked at 1-1.
